First Bison Woolie

(Click on thumbnails for larger photo)

This piece created a stir at the New York Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY on October 21-22. Carol sculpted it from authentic bison fiber and it served as a centerpiece of the display by Still River Mills (located in eastern Connecticut), a company that specializes in processing and selling exotic fibers.

Many thanks to Greg and Deidre for furnishing the fiber for this Woolie and providing such a prominent place for display of Bison.

Needle Felted Easter Egg and Airedale

There's nothing more peaceful looking than a child sleeping soundly under his or her covers. And for those of us who are dog-lovers, we can include in that visual a dog sleeping soundly cuddled up with his or her favorite toy.

Here's one such pooch. The dog's name is 'Everyone's Dog.' It is a woolen needle-felted creation 6"x3"x1 3/4" with its head propped up on a store-bought bunny.

With the coming of Easter, I needle-felted a colorful Easter egg for them to lie on to further symbolize the peace (and the 'colorful' joy) of the resurrected Christ.

The entire sculpture measures 6"x4"x5 3/4". The dog and bunny are not attached to the Egg so the dog and the egg can be arranged at will.

A Winning Woolie!

Update 10/04/06:

This Woolie also was the first prize winner at the 2006 Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival in September for a hand-crafted item made from wool. Brementown Terriers is still for sale, but Carol is the contact person (wooliedales@gmail.com).

My Woolie, Brementown Terriers, was awarded second prize at a national juried fine arts competition dedicated to canine art. This show is sponsored by the Wichita Kennel Club, Hutchinson Kennel Club, Salina Kennel Club, Wichita Dog Training Club and the Purina company. The art will be displayed March 2- April 9 at three venues in Wichita.

This is the second year one of my my Woolies has won a prize in this competition. Naturally, I'm pleased as punch!!

The piece can be purchased for $400. Go to the Wooliedales website to purchase Brementown Terriers ( if it has not already been sold)

Or, if you prefer, contact me at wooliedales@gmail.com. This is my premier terrier piece.
